Col’s Story

I have spent most of my life in engineering. I served my time as a gear cutter & then moved into the engineering department providing solutions to mechanical problems on military vehicles.

After several other career moves I decided self-employment was the way forward. Several years ago I set up as a Handyman, but it was only after speaking to a fellow Guild member a few years ago that sweeping was going to be my next career step.

After looking at the various trade organisations I decided to train with the best, ‘The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps’.
After extensive training in theory & practice I became a fully qualified Chimney Sweep.
I love meeting people & enjoy the different challenges the job entails.

After a rewarding 7 years meeting some amazing people but not getting any younger, I made the decision to retire and set out to find a replacement…

Greg’s Story

I worked as a Printer for 15 years, working on large scale industrial printing presses. I then qualified as a Manufacturing Engineer and spent the next 2 years providing solutions to manufacturing problems. This came to an abrupt end when the company went into administration leaving all employees redundant with immediate effect.

While chatting to Col during my annual chimney sweep, he mentioned he was looking to retire and was looking for someone to takeover the business. Being recently made unemployed, I offered myself as a candidate and with support from Col and other Guild members, I completed the same ‘Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps’ training and became a fully qualified chimney sweep.

I also enjoy meeting customers and sharing the information that has been passed on to me to help customers stay safe and get the most out of their appliance.
